Learn Sashiko Embroidery
Sashiko is a Japanese embroidery that translates as ‘little stabs’. Traditionally, it was a decorative stitch used to mend and strengthen worn clothes. Today is it often used for visible mending or embellishing clothes.
In this two-and-a-half-hour workshop you will learn about the history of sashiko embroidery, stitch different patterns and learn what they mean. You will learn how to make the running stitch which forms the basis of sashiko as well as lots of embroidery tips.
You will be able to try a number of different sashiko patterns, learning how to transfer and stitch the pattern. After completing the pattern, you will be able to use it to customise a fabric bag.
In the workshop you will receive your own sashiko needle and threads, fabric and a bag which you will be able to take home to continue to explore this mindful embroidery.
No experience of embroidery is necessary and all equipment and materials will be provided.
Liz Taylor started her business Sew Taylor Made Designs in 2019 and uses gorgeous Japanese fabrics to create bags and accessories. She has previously run sashiko workshops for the Liverbirds WI, at the Tate RIBA North as part of the DOES takeover, and at Florence and Fox.

We keep workshops small at Florence and Fox so you can be sure of lots of one to one attention.
